Volunteering

Parent Duties

At registration, parents will be asked to fill in a volunteer form. Volunteering can be fun as Viking parents are a friendly group.

Each family is required to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours prior to the Regional meet and an additional 2 shifts at each of the Vikings, Regional, and Provincial meets if your child will be participating. For the Vikings Meet, because we are the host club, 2 shifts per day are required if your child will be swimming in this meet.

A volunteer deposit cheque of $200 will be collected at registration and will be refunded or pro-rated according to the number of volunteer hours completed.

All parents are expected to help in the following ways:

  • Helping at the Vikings swim meet.
  • Contributing food for the Vikings swim meet.
  • Working on deck (timing, recording, place judging, stroke and turn) at each meet your child attends. Training is available for meet duties. It is a very social activity, and can be a lot of fun.

In addition, there are many behind-the-scenes volunteer positions available for swimming and water polo (see below).
